The Shadow (A Man Following a Woman)

One scene of a chalkboard animation. This may eventually be part of William Wilson, my version of Poe's doppelganger story. This sequence was inspired by a scene from the 1949 movie The Scapegoat, another double story, based on Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name. In the movie Alec Guiness walks past a phallic tower on the estate of his evil twin, his shadow sweeping ominously around the curve of the wall. I related this to an old archetypal theme of mine, the subject of many of my paintings & sculptures, A Man Following a Woman. The doppelganger can play many roles, either of the id or the superego, Hyde or Jekyll, Don Giovanni or The Commendatore.
