The Fall of Icarus, 1990, oil & acrylic on paper, 50 x 36 inches

when the owners of this painting recently brought it in to M2 Gallery to be reframed, Mac Murphy discovered this on the back .See below. Mac posted on FB:
"When a client brings in an AMAZING 1991 @warrencriswell to be reframed, I get excited. When I unframe it and there’s an equally awesome piece on the back side of it that the client and even Warren was unaware of ..100! 100! 100! Now, time to engineer that very large double-sided frame."

Yeah, it was a surprise to the owner and to me as well. Can't remember how it happened. Looks like I started painting a strip club wih Anubis, then abandonned it, flipped the sheet over , turned it vertical and painted Icarus falling in the University Mall. It's been hidden by the matboard all these years.
Just noticed the dogs at the lower right. Those would be the hounds of Acteon, the voyeur, attacking their master at the command of Artemis, the goddess who resented being seen naked. What she was doing in a strip club, I have no idea.
